Training manual sample
Below are some extracts from our Virtual Train The Trainer manual.
Adapting your facilitation style for
online or virtual training sessions
It must be recognised that delivery of
virtual training sessions requires a very different skill set and abilities from
face to face training. The
communication, engagement, and use of technology are all very different.
Things to think about to optimise the
delivery of virtual training:
Technical Preparation and use of Tools
·
Test Equipment and Software: To be proficient in
training delivery to maximise delivery success and relieve stress for the trainer.
Conduct a trial runs to identify any
technical issues to ensure the internet connection, camera, microphone, and any
necessary applications or functions are working correctly.
·
Backup: Always have a process to manage any
technical problems that may happen just before or during a course. This will maintain momentum and control of a
course. This applies to issues for delegates,
such as Camera or audio failures, or for the trainer themselves, such as use of
Breakout rooms, audio or router problems.
·
Consistent use: Share tips and best practice
between trainers to provide a consistent approach for delegates, especially
after software updates that may change functionality.
Designing engaging content
·
Use interactive elements: Incorporate polls,
quizzes, and interactive open questions to keep participants engaged. Use functions
and applications like Kahoot for real time interaction.
·
Aids: Use high quality visuals and sound, such
as slides, infographics, and videos, to illustrate key points. Use best practice
to provide clear, concise and relevant information.
·
Chunk Content: Break down content into manageable
chunks. This helps maintain attention and makes information easier to digest.
Engaging delivery style
·
Keep class size minimal in order to be able to engage
individuals effectively and often. Agree a maximum class size for sessions and
stick to it, otherwise engagement and quality will suffer.
·
Maintain engagement and build rapport among delegates
by varying exercises, for example working in pairs, small groups and individually.
·
Start with an icebreaker activity to build
rapport and make participants feel more comfortable. Ideally, this should highlight information
previously unknown by the deleagtes.
·
Use open questions, encourage participation, verbally
and using of chat functions. Invite participants to share their experiences or
thoughts and share experiences.
·
Manage the delegates Active Learning:
Incorporate activities that require active participation, such as group
discussions in breakout rooms, hands-on exercises, and role-playing scenarios.
