Understanding Project Management
Fundamentals for Non-Project Managers
Even if you're not a project manager,
understanding the basics of project management is invaluable.
It helps you collaborate effectively with
project teams, contribute to project success, and understand the context and
processes of project related tasks within your role.
Here’s what you need to know:
Key Project Management Fundamentals
Project Definition - A temporary unique endeavour
undertaken to create a product, service, or result.
Project Characteristics - Projects are unique,
temporary, have a defined beginning and end, and have specific objectives to be
achieved. They will always involve change.
Project Lifecycle – This will be broken
down into Phases, covering the following processes. The number of phases may vary, depending upon
how each phase is broken down, but the lifecycle processes will remain the same.
Project Phases -
·
Initiation: Background of Business plan. Defining
the project, its purpose, scope, and objectives.
·
Planning: Developing a detailed roadmap of how
to achieve the project objectives.
·
Execution: Carrying out the project plan and
performing the work. This includes monitoring
and controlling (such as tracking progress, managing changes, and ensuring the
project stays on track).
·
Closure: Finalising all activities, delivering
the project, and closing it officially.
For BAU Projects, this may include aspects such as preparing and
upskilling for the next project.
