Slide/Title masters

I already have a PowerPoint presentation when I go to Slide master from the View menu I see an option on the master toolbar called Insert Slide Master.

I thought the whole purpose of having slide masters was to have consistency throughout all the slides.

I know we use Title master to reflect changes made on all slides that are title layout and we use Slide Master to reflect changes for all other slides EXCEPT Title master.

I still don't understand why would I need to insert a new Slide master if I already have one.

Please Clarify!!

RE: Slide/Title masters

Dear Rajeev

I can see you have a sound understanding in the slide and title masters. That shows either your trainer has taught you well or you have mastered the topic at your work place.

This is a very good and viable question. Many people don't seem to understand the importance of having the need to use two or more slide masters!!

OK I hope the following example will make it clear to you:

Let's assume that you are a marketing executive of a company which has lots of clients (companies). Remember these could be companies which might be competitors of each other.

You have to go and deliver the same presentation with the same content. But how would they feel if they saw their competitor's logo's on the presentation. Or may be they have a specific colour scheme that they are accustomed to. So what do you do? Do you create 50 separate presentation which has got the same content or do you create separate Slide masters and customize them according to your individual client's (Company's needs). If you have done a bit of home work you might go to their website and check there colour scheme they may have used and customise the presentation accordingly. This will give them the a good feeling about you and your company and most probably you have more chances of securing that crucial sale which would have otherwise failed!!

TIP: It is important that you use the Preserve button once you have created another slide master. What does this do? All the slide masters that you create will appear in the Slide Design on the task pane in your normal view. They keep on disappearing from the pane in the currently used in this presentation section if you no longer use the master. But if you want to constantly display the design (master) then preserving it in the master view will ensure that it is always there. This will be very useful and a quick method when you want to change the presentation from one master to another by using the Slide Design.
