Fonts

Can you use any font on a webpage or do I have to remember that not all machines have the same fonts loaded? Is there a particular one the matches worldwide?

RE: Fonts

Debbie,

Yes, you can use any font on a web page, but you are right in the fact that your visitors must also have that font installed on their computer. You can consider using images for headings, which will allow you to use any font, but the load time on your page will be longer for your visitors.

Most computers have standard fonts such as Times New Roman, Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica (Mac), Verdana, Courier and Comic Sans, so you are usually 99% safe with them.

However, it's best to remember that you can never guarantee your visitors will have a particular font installed. All one can do is stick to the basics and hope.

Also, people can override the fonts on all web page in their browser if they choose to. Not many people do this, but they can.

This list of standard Windows fonts may be a good place to start experimenting with different font choices.

Regards, Rich
