I log into a monitoring database via excel plug-in to access our portfolio companies monthly data and run through standard steps to send some data outputs to the portfolio companies Wondering if I can use the 'record macro' function to automate this procedure each month.

Thank you for the forum question.
I do not believe that you can record the task. The recorder can only record what you can do in excel worksheets.
The task can be automated. I automate tasks like this by writing VBA codes or I use Power Query.
