Function to change a text date to a short date format within one

I often download data in the wrong format for the date, it appears as text and I have trouble trying to transfer this to a date type cell. I use Datevalue to get the value of the date and then another column wit the date value which is then translated to the short date. Is there an easier method?

I also often download data which is not in English which means I have to indiviudally translate each cell by good translate. Is there a function in excel which can translate cells?

RE: Function to change a text date to a short date format within

Hi Inga,

Thank you for the forum question.

I can handle all date issues I have come across so far with Power Query in Excel.

Please watch the video below.

If this is not solving your issue, I will need a sample of the dates from you.

You can send a sample file to: info@stl-training.co.uk

Excel tip:

Enter formulae into multiple cells

If a formula is to be used in a series of cells, select the cells first. Now type in your formula and hold the Ctrl key while you press Enter. This enters the formula in each selected cell.

Just be careful with your absolute and relative cell references.
