Sharepoint

I need to edit a document library, but I can't delete or rename files (I get an error message). However, I am able to create new files and upload documents. I wonder if I should request to be given direct access to the SharePoint? Or what access should I request please?

RE: Sharepoint

Hi Charlotte,

Great question.
SharePoint Library/Folders have 6 main permission levels

It sounds like you are describing "Contribute" permissions. You will need to go to "Manage Access" to change this, likely you will need some who has Full Control to enable this for you (SharePoint/365 Administrator)

I hope that explains why you can't rename the files but can create them.

Quick reminder of the permission levels inside SharePoint Document Libraries

Full Control - Has full control.

Design - Can view, add, update, delete, approve, and customize.

Edit - Can add, edit and delete lists; can view, add, update and delete list items and documents.

Contribute - Can view, add, update, and delete list items and documents.

Read - Can view pages and list items and download documents.

Restricted View - Can view pages, list items, and documents. Documents can be viewed in the browser but not downloaded.

Kind regards
