Word - tables

I have been transcribing onto a word document that is formatted as a table. When I opened the document today the content was missing from the main section of the table but none of the other sections above, next to or below it. The missing work is work from several work sessions that had previously saved successfully. The missing work has been erassed from both the copy on the computer itself and the copy saved to a usb drive! This has happened once before but it wasn't such a drastic loss last time. Can anyone tell me if/how to recover the missing work and why this is happening so I can stop it happening again! Thanks

RE: Word - tables

Hello Gemma,

Thank you for your question regarding.

The issue you're experiencing isn't one I've ever encountered but I will look into it and get back to you asap.

It would be helpful to know which version of Word you're using and if there are/were any links in the document.

Kind regards

RE: Word - tables

Thanks Cindy, it is Word 2010. No links to the document I'm afraid. Also, the transcription itself was done using Dragon Speech Recognition software, if that makes a difference?

RE: Word - tables

Hi Gemma.

I've not heard of this issue before either. But it sounds like a real issue that you want to solve as soon as you can. It might help to send the document with the missing text to us at info@stl-training.co.uk and ask to forward to Doug to look at.

In the mean time you could try the following:

File, Info, Check for Issues, Inspect Document.
This reports on any hidden text.

Also Click inside the table, click the Design tab.
From Table Styles press the small down triangle to see all the table styles. Press the Clear icon to remove all formatting from the table. If the text still doesn't appear press undo to reformat the table again.

Sorry I can't be of more help Gemma for the moment.

Regards
Doug

RE: Word - tables

Dear Doug,

I have tried both options you suggested to no avail I'm afraid. I cannot send you the document as it contains confidential information.

Thank for trying to help,

Gemma

RE: Word - tables

Hi Gemma. Sorry that didn't work.

One other thing to check is the file format that is being saved. If not saved as a Word document some of the formatting can disappear. Just a thought.

I'll get back to you if I hear of any other suggestions.

Doug

Turning off the Drawing Canvas

Sick of the Drawing canvas appearing when you are attempting to create shapes from the Drawing toolbar in your Word document?

You can change the settings in Word to ensure that the Drawing canvas never bothers you again.

1. Go to Tools - Options.
2. Select the General tab.
3. Deselect 'Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes'.
4. Click OK.
