Task links not working while pasting many tasks

Our Trainer or any body in the forum can anser.

My project version is 2007. In order to save time I usually copy the group of tasks within the existing programme and paste. I wanted to keep link of the tasks as it is. But it is disappearing ( I mean there will be no link between tasks and each task starts at default project start date).
Is there any way we could resolve this problem.

Umesh

RE: Task links not working while pasting many tasks

Hi Umesh

Thank you for your question. One thing to check when you are selecting your tasks before you copy is that you highlight from the row numbers. If you click and select using the row numbers you will see the highlight extends for the length of the entire row for that task. This means all the information (including linking) will be picked up. Let me know if this works for you.

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: Task links not working while pasting many tasks

Andrew,

Thanks for your response. I have done as you told.

I selected entire rows from Task ID. I wanted to copy Task and all subtasks and their entire content [ duration, works hours, resource person, including links (Eg. SS, FF etc) etc etc]. Unfortunately it is not working.

RE: Task links not working while pasting many tasks

Hi Umesh

I have tested and it seems to work, the only thing I would add is that you will need to highlight all the rows not just the summary task. This seemed to work for me (including assigned resources).
Does it make a difference if you include all required tasks (main and sub tasks)?

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: Task links not working while pasting many tasks

Andrew,
Thanks for your repply. Unfortunately it is still not working.
I did select the entire rows. Copied and pasted. entire things gets pasted except links. Links disappears or appear in paste. I mean links (predesors, successors) are not copying or not pastying. Is there anything to do with setting?

RE: Task links not working while pasting many tasks

Hi Umesh

Sorry for delay in getting back to you. Just to confirm that the links that are being copied point to tasks that are also being copied.

I believe Project will copy links to tasks if those tasks are also copied. If a task on row 1 has a link to a task on row 10 then the link can be copied and pasted if both rows 1 and 10 are included in the selection.

Let me know if this applies in your situation Umesh.

Kind regards,
Andrew

MS Project tip:

Link tasks using predecessor column - project

a. First, note ID number of the task you want to link to (predecessor). Then, in the predecessor column of the task you want to link to (successor), type the predecessor task's ID number.
b. The link will be a Finish to Start (the default type).
c. Or you can add in a code for a different relationship type
i. SS = Start to Start
ii. FF = Finish to Finish
iii. SF = Start to Finish
d. You don't have to type the task ID numbers in any specific order, but you must separate multiple tasks with commas.
