Versions of Project

Can MS Project files created in 2003 be read by earlier versions?

Thanks

RE: Versions of Project

Hi

This is a shightly complex answer but, the 2003 files can be read as long as they do not use any features that were not present in earlier versions, so if you are using a lot of new features the answer is no, and if it is very basic then you should be able to open the microsoft project file. Also it does depend on how old the version of Microsoft Project is, I would say that most project 2003 would not open on microsoft project 98, but they may be ok for Microsoft Project 2000.

Microsoft project does contain a feature where you can save a file from project 2003 to be used in earlier versions. To do this to file>saveAs and then select the project file format that you require.

Hope this helps

David

MS Project tip:

Typing Links Between Tasks

In the Entry table, use the Precessors column to type in links. Type the previous task's ID to link. To change the link, add FS (Finish-Start), FF (Finish-Finish), and so on, and + duration to add a Lag, or - duration for a Lead time. Example: for task 5, 4FS+1w ... task 4 preceeds task 5, finish to start, with a week lag between.
