how do i upload my own texts into dreamweaver to give me more choice?

RE: text families

Hi John,

Thanks for your question. I hope you enjoyed the Dreamweaver training.

I'm assuming you mean fonts?

This is a tricky one, because you can download the many hundreds of thousands of fonts available, install them on your machine (copy the .fon or .ttf file to your WindowsFonts folder - or another method for Macs), and Dreamweaver will let you use any of the fonts you've installed.

To download fonts, simply search Google for 'free fonts' or similar, and you'll find heaps.

However, if you save a page and upload it to your web site using a particular font, and your visitors visit the page, they will not see the font you've used. The browser will most likely choose the default font (eg. Times New Roman, or similar) because the visitor doesn't have the font installed on their machine.

That's why most web pages use standard fonts such as Tahoma, Arial, Verdana... because they're the fonts that are installed on everyone's computers.

The only way to ensure your visitors see the new/fancy font is to turn the font into an image, and use the image on your web page. This does, of course, take longer to download, which is why a lot of web sites use fancy fonts as images for their headings, and leave the main body text as a standard font.
