HELP Conditonal Fornatin

Hello,

Trying to use conditional formatting (new rules - formatting cells that only contain specific text) to change the format colours cells for the 12 months. so that I can select the months showing the cell colour in a drop down list in another tab.

On a deadline

Thanks

RE: HELP Conditonal Fornatin

Hi Laila

Thanks for your question.

Are you applying conditional formatting to cells that contain the words "January", "February" etc, or that actually contain dates?

If the cells contain text, then you should be able to use the rule you described to highlight cells based on the specific words (just be careful not to add in "speech marks", as Excel will do this automatically in conditional formatting).

If the cells contain dates, you will need to use the rule:
Format cells that contain cell value between... then specify the actual date range, eg 01/12/2017 to 31/12/2017. Even if your date formatting includes the month as a word, Excel still recognises this as a cell with a date in it so cannot apply conditional formatting rules testing text.

Let me know if you have any further problems with this.
