Using NOT operator and filtering data

In a table I have one column as Workstream and another column as Cost centre. If I want to run a query to return certain values of the Workstream and also to exclude one value of a Cost centre (within the values of the Workstream) I use the <> operator on the Cost centre. This is on the same line as the Workstream criteria so it acts as an AND condition. I have checked the outcome with and without using the <> Cost centre so the outcome is correct, but when I come to filter on the data of the Cost centre column, it gives an error message "Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression 'Cost centre'." I click ok but I'm not able to filter on the Cost centre column as no filter values come up. My result looks correct but why do I get this error message and cannot filter?

RE: Using NOT operator and filtering data

Hi Lien

Thanks for your question.
I've tried to duplicate your table and query and have not as yet had the error message you are getting. Perhaps send a similar example to us and I'll take a look. Please send to info@stl-training.co.uk and ask for your forum question to be forwarded to Doug Dunn.

Thanks for now

Access tip:

Switchboard Startup

An option when you open your Access database that contains all of you tables, forms and queries is only the switchboard is displayed.

To achieve this, select Tools click on Startup. On the right hand side of the Startup screen you are able to select which form you want to open when you open you Access Database. Once you have selected this, there is a check box just below that says "Display Database Window", you need to uncheck this option. Then click ok.

Then when you close you Access database and re open it, the database should open with just the switchboard being shown
