Fuctions

I have a cell which I have allocated drop down choices, I want those to be traffic light coloured, so that they change dependant of which choice is made - how do I do that?

I also have other cells where I want the sum if between 1 - 5 to be traffic light coded so:

1=red
2=amber
3=amber
4=green
5=green

how do I do that please?

Thanks,
Cath

RE: Fuctions

Hello Catherine,

Thank you for your post. For the first part of your question, select the cell(s) containing the drop-downs. In the Home tab, select Conditional Formatting. Select Highlight Cells Rules, then select Text that Contains. In the box, type in the first drop-down option, then click the drop-down where you set the formatting. You could either use the quick red, yellow or green options, or select Custom Format for more options.

Because there is more than one item in your in-cell drop-down, you need to create a separate rule for each item.

As for the numbers, you would follow a similar process. Select the cells showing the numbers, then go to Conditional Formatting, Highlight Cells Rules, Equal To. Here you create five rules, one for each possible value (1 to 5). Again, for each rule, set the relevant colour.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Excel tip:

Repeating headings on spreadsheets that print on more than one page

By default when you print a spreadsheet out and it prints on more than one page, the headings at the top and the side of the spreadsheet don't appear on all the pages following page 1.

To get Excel to repeat headings on all pages when printing, go to File - Page Setup - Sheet, then select the rows to repeat at the top of pages, and the columns to repeat at the side of pages by clicking on the red arrows at the right side of the two boxes under the 'Print titles' area. Then click OK.

If you view your spreadsheet in Print Preview, you should see the headings being repeated on each page.
