Alison has attended:
Word Intermediate course

Microsoft word 2010

In the training manual sent to me after the course, page 203 states there are two ways to create a template. I want to create my own template. However - Quote: "The other way that you can create a template is to start from a blank document and lay out the template the way you want it."
Please can you tell me where I can find the documented process re how to do this.
Thanks.

RE: Microsoft word 2010

Hi Alison

Thanks for your question - this second approach is simpler than the first. All you need to do is to create the document that you would like to use as a template for future documents. Include standard text, formatting tables and other items as you would do when creating any document. When you are ready to turn it into a template save the document using the template file type. You can see information about how to do this on the next page of the manual but in summary choose File > Save as then in the save as type part of the dialogue box set the type to template and save with an appropriate name.

Now when you go to File > New click on the icon for My Templates and you should see your template listed there. Double click it to make a new document based on your original template.

Let me know how this works for you and if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Andrew

Word tip:

Use Paint Brush to do Multiple Formating in Word

To copy a format from one piece of text in Word to multiple words or paragraphs

1. Select the word with the format that you want to copy

2. Double-click on the paint brush icon on the Toolbar

When you move to the word/paragraph where you want to paste the format you will notice that a paint brush follows the cursor.

Paste the format to all the words and paragraphs you need to format.

When finished go back to the paint brush on the Toolbar and single click on it to deactivate the function.
