Powerpoint Hyperlink

Hi

I am having problems with hyperkinks in PowerPoint. I have looked at this forum and followed the steps as per others questions. It all seems fine and when I re-open the document all my hyperlinks have dissapeared and I cant test them.

Please can you help me?

Thanks
Gina

RE: Powerpoint Hyperlink

Hi Gina

Thanks for your question. When you say thy have disappeared is it that the text is present but no longer links or is it that everything to do with the link has gone.

Let me know the steps you are following to insert your hyperlink and the kind of hyperlink you are creating (are they linking to web pages, documents or another slide in your presentation).

They can for example be added by going to the Insert Ribbon, choosing hyperlink and then setting the text to display and web address as needed.

The only other thing to bear in mind is that the presenation needs to be running (pressing F5 will start your presentation) in order to test them.

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: Powerpoint Hyperlink

Hi Andrew

The text stays where it is but the the underline and blue font changes back to the orginal text format and even when it is in slide option it doesnt give me the option to click on the text. I am trying to get it to go to a web page.

These are the steps I am following:
To create a hyperlink:
1. Select (highlight) the text you want to add the hyperlink to.

2. Right-click directly on top of the text you have selected - there should be a Hyperlink option in the menu that comes up on your screen. (Shortcut CTRL + K)

3. The Insert Hyperlink dialogue box will appear on your screen. The text that the hyperlink will be attached to is displayed in the 'Text to display' area at the top.

4. Ensure you have the correct option selected from the left hand side of the dialogue box - for example, if you want the hyperlink to open a web page, make sure 'Existing File or Web Page' is selected on the left.

5. Enter the web page address in the 'Address' area at the bottom of the dialogue box (it is a good idea to copy and paste this in from your browser window to ensure that the address is correct).

6. Click OK. The hyperlink is now set up. (If you have created the hyperlink in PowerPoint, it will only work in slideshow view. In other applications, you should be able to click on it straight away to test it).

Thanks

RE: Powerpoint Hyperlink

Hi Gina

Thanks for coming back to me. I've followed those steps to check all OK and they work fine, creating a clickable link to a website.

I wonder if the problem is to do with the text on which the hyperlink is being set. One quick way to test this is to create a brand new empty presentation. Create a slide, type some text and follow the above steps.

If you find you can create a clickable hyperlink then the issue is probably to do with the text in your main presentation or perhaps the way hyperlinks are formatted.

Let me know if you can create links in other presentations or not. They we can investigate further.

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: Powerpoint Hyperlink

Hi Andrew

Thanks for this, I think it was a problem with the text. It was an old presentation that I was working on. I have now been able to do a hyperlink on a new presentation and will go from there.

Thank you for your help

PowerPoint tip:

Make your PowerPoint presentation smaller

Choose "File", "Properties" and turn off "Save preview picture".

This also speeds up saving the file, as Powerpoint does not have to create the little image preview.
