Adding numbers to slides - the numbers don't appear!

Hello Best STL,

Am appealing for your help on PowerPoint 2007, as no-one in the office can fathom it!

We need to add slide numbers to a presentation that we are hoping to send out by COB (today - Fri 24th!). When we add slide numbers, they bizarrely are not appearing on the slides - either in the normal view, or in slideshow view.

We are adding them using the following steps:

Insert
Slide number
Clicking on 'slide number' and 'apply to all'

And nothing appears!

If you could please reply as soon as you can, I would be most grateful.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Amy Ryles

RE: Adding numbers to slides - the numbers don't appear!

Hello Amy,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft PowerPoint Intermediate/Advanced course with Best STL.

Thank you for your question regarding slide numbers not showing on your slides.

There could be 2 reasons why the numbers do not show on your slides.

1) The font colour of the slide number character (#) in the slide master is the same colour as your background colour.

2) The slide number placeholder in the slide master has been deleted.

Click the View ribbon and select the Slide Master from the Presentation Views group. The slide number placeholder is usually found at the bottom right-hand corner of the top master slide. If it is there, look for the # symbol and check the font colour and adjust to a more appropriate colour that contrasts with the background colour of your slides.

If the slide number placeholder is missing you can put it back by selecting the topmost slide (main master) then clicking on the Master Layout button and making sure that the Slide Number check box is ticked.

This will put the slide number placeholder onto the Master slide at the top. It should automatically do the same for all the remaining slide layouts below. If the other slides do not have the slide number placeholder added to them, then there is a workaround. In the top slide (main master) click and drag on the slide number placeholder border whilst holding down your CTRL key. This makes a copy of the placeholder and SHOULD also add it to all the layout slides below. You can then delete the one you made a copy from in the top slide (main master) and simply reposition the copied placeholder and format the font size and font colour.

I know this is quite a mission and I hope that this works for you. Let me know!

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

PowerPoint tip:

Moving Tabs where you want

This is a powerpoint only tip.

When you are moving tabs using the ruler the pain is that they jump, but if you use the CTRL key and then click on the tab it will allow you to move it anywhere you want.
