V look up

when using the last part of the formula (true or false), can this be used with names as well, or just numbers?

RE: v look up

Hello Herve,
I hope you enjoyed your Excel training session with us.

In response to your question, you can use the vlookup function with numbers or text. False and true refer to the type of match you are looking for. "False" refers to an exact match, and "true" refers to a near match. When using "true" with numbers, you will get a result that is closest to the number you are searching for without going over. In this case, it is important that you first sort your data A>Z to ensure you are getting the closest match. When using it with text, it will search for the beginning of the string (for example, "Jennifer" will match on "Jen").

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved. If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. And please feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Have a great day.

Regards,

Excel tip:

Activating the formula bar with the keyboard in Excel 2010

The formula bar in Excel 2010 contains a number of different formulas. However, it is time consuming to open the formula bar every time and insert the formula using the mouse. Instead, you can activate the formula bar with the keyboard. Simply press the F2 button on the keyboard then the information in the cell will expand allowing you to edit the information in the cell.
