RE: producing report, resources etc

Hi Grant

Thanks for your questions.

There are several reports in Project that show progress. View > Reports > Overview > Project Summary will give you a current position report. Alternatively you might want to print out the Tracking Gantt chart (perhaps with the variance or cost table displayed)

To bring notes up to the Gantt chart go to Format > Bar styles and select the task item from the list. Switch to the text tab then click one of the available slots and from the list of fields choose Notes. Click OK and any notes attached to tasks will appear beside the bars.

Splitting a task is useful to indicate that a task starts then pauses (perhaps to release resources to work on other tasks) before resuming later on. It also allows Project to show partially complete tasks and the remaining work to be carried out later in the project.

I hope this answers your question - do let us know if we can be of any further help.

Kind regards,

Andrew

RE: producing report, resorces etc

I like to add a shot at foresight in my progress meetings by printing a "Tasks starting soon" report (Report> Reports> Current activities) togeter with printouts of Risk reports.

The Drawing toolbar is always a good one for adding things like arrows and textboxes

RE: producing report, resorces etc

Hi Carl

Thanks for the excellent suggestion.

One way to access the drawing toolbar is to go to the View menu, choose Toolbars and from the list select drawing.

Great to see you on the forum.

Kind regards,

Andrew

MS Project tip:

Link tasks using predecessor column - project

a. First, note ID number of the task you want to link to (predecessor). Then, in the predecessor column of the task you want to link to (successor), type the predecessor task's ID number.
b. The link will be a Finish to Start (the default type).
c. Or you can add in a code for a different relationship type
i. SS = Start to Start
ii. FF = Finish to Finish
iii. SF = Start to Finish
d. You don't have to type the task ID numbers in any specific order, but you must separate multiple tasks with commas.
