Can you lock a field so it does not update?

I wanted to know if it is possible to lock a field inserted into a Word document. We have a template which I do not have access to changing at my office. They have set the date up on automatic so when you create a new document based on the template the date always changes, even when you open the document 2 weeks later. Am I able to lock the date so that it remains on the date the document was created?

RE: Can you lock a field so it does not update?

Yes you can lock the date - if you just highlight the date and press CTRL + F11 the date will now be locked and will not change.

To unlock if you need to, just select date and press CTRL + SHIFT + F11.

Word tip:

Reset Word toolbars to default settings

If you find any of your toolbars in Word have changed (i.e. they are missing or have extra buttons) then you can reset them to their defaults.

1. Go to Tools - Customise.
2. Select the Toolbars tab.
3. Select (highlight) the name of the toolbar you wish to reset, then click the Reset button on the right.
4. Close the dialogue box.
