Automatic importing from other worksheets.
We have a spreadsheet for each job totalling costs and profit . Can we get the total for each project to be automatically sent to a central document for easy reference. At the moment we have to open each file and get figure and then close it and move onto the next one.
Many Thanks

RE: Automatic importing from other worksheets.
Hi Rory,
If I understand your correctly, you wish to collate costs and profits from a source worksheet in a one workbook and have them display in a summary sheet in a separate Excel workbook.
This can be done by linking the source workbook to the summary workbook.
The steps are as follows;
1. Have the source workbook and your intended summary workbook open.
2. In the summary worksheet place your cursor in the cell you wish to display your totals.
3. Insert the = sign to begin the link.
3. Using your mouse, click on the cell on the source worksheet that holds the total figure of interest and hit the Enter key to complete.
Repeat this process for other totals.
For ease of navigation, a suggestion would be to select from the Windows menu, the Arrange > Tiled options. This allows worksbooks to be viewed at once.
Hope ths helps
RE: Automatic importing from other worksheets.
If you highlight the cell you want to copy from (and presumably the cell that continually updates) copy the cell and then go to your central document and place the cursor in the cell where you want this new figure to appear.
Then you can Edit/Paste Special/and click on the Paste Special button at the bottom left. That way it should continually update as the original figure updates.
That's one way, perhaps Best training can advise you of a faster way.
