Filtering in Power BI desktop

Is there a feature in power BI that you can use which makes it easy to keep track of how each visual in the report is filtered?
(For example you may have a lot of visuals filtered in different ways to one another, and I am just wondering whether you need to keep track of what filters you have put on charts yourself).

Thanks!

RE: Filtering in Power BI desktop

Hi Ben,

Thank you for the forum question.

Filtering report pages can be confusing. Of course if you use slicers you can see what is ticked. If you filter by a data point in a matrix or other visuals Power BI desktop will grey out the rest of the data.

I like to create dynamic text boxes by DAX to explain to my audience all kind of things. Also how the page they look at is filtered and if the filtering get changed the text will change accordingly to the changes.

The DAX to do this is not straight forward and need to be written based on your data model and your measures you display on your visuals.

An important DAX function to do this is SELECTEDVALUE.

When I run a DAX course I show my delegates some examples.

I have found a video on YOUTUBE which can give you some ideas.

Power BI tip:

Optimize Report Performance

Pay attention to report performance by optimizing your data model and report design. Use the Performance Analyzer tool to identify bottlenecks in your report and improve loading times. Techniques such as using summarisation, avoiding unnecessary visuals, and optimizing DAX queries contribute to a faster and more responsive report.
