Connecting PowerBI to Excel file in SharePoint Folder

Hello,

I'm trying to connect PowerBI with Excel file on my sharepoint folder.

I've googled a lot to find the answer and it's still not working.

It says that to connect successfully, I need to give a specific direction (link to the file on Sharepoint), so everytime when Excel file is changed , then I will see changes in my PowerBI report online.

I did that by giving a definitive link to file and also I tried to give a path to root, where the file is saved, but still no results.

Any suggestions?

Kind Regards

RE: Connecting PowerBI to Excel file in SharePoint Folder

Hello Piotr,

Thank you for your question. When you try to connect to a SharePoint file using Get Data - SharePoint Folder, you can only connect to a SharePoint folder or SharePoint List.

To connect to an Excel file in SharePoint, do the following:
1. Open SharePoint and open the Excel file. Then, open the Excel file in the Excel desktop app.
2. In the Excel desktop app, go to File - Info
3. Click Copy Path
4. Open Notepad and paste the link.
5. Delete the last bit of the link which reads ?Web=1
6. Select and copy the link
7. Open Power BI Desktop
8. Click Get Data - Web
9. Paste the link into the URL box and click OK
10. This will load the connected data into Power BI Desktop from the Excel file in SharePoint.
11. You can manually refresh the data in Power BI Desktop by clicking Refresh or you can set up Scheduled Refresh in Power BI Online Service, as long as your sign-in credentials are correct.

I hope this answers your question.

Kind regards
