COLOUR FORMATTING

Hi. Can you please tell me the formula to colour code 2 number cells?

Basially i want to colour code the higher number in red and the lower number in green

RE: COLOUR FORMATTING

Hi Daniel

You need to use the Conditional Formatting (HOME Tab) feature.

You will format each cell separately and apply two (2) sets of conditional formatting to each cell

Greater Than (Green)
Cell 1: CELL 1 Greater Than CELL 2 format as Green
Cell 2: CELL 2 Greater Than CELL 1 format as Green

Less Than (Red)
Cell 1: CELL 1 Less Than CELL 2 format as Red
Cell 2: CELL 2 Less Than CELL 1 format as Red

RE: COLOUR FORMATTING

The below information can be found on page 21 of the Intermediate Course Manual. This can be downloaded from the resources page if you don't have a copy.

Applying Conditional Formatting
To use conditional formatting:
Select a range of data that you want to apply the formatting to.
On the Home ribbon, Styles group, click the Conditional Formatting button.
This will display a menu of conditional formatting options. From this menu, you can choose:
Select the option you wish to use to apply formatting

Highlight Cells Rules This will highlight cells that are greater than, less than, between or equal to values that you can specify.

You will need to apply each rule separately to each cell, so ensure only one cell is selected.

NOTE:
If you have been applying lots of conditional formatting and it still not working, ensure you have deleted the old formatting you applied to the cells as this could be affecting the results.

To remove conditional formatting, highlight the cells, On the Home ribbon, Styles group, click the Conditional Formatting button. Select Clear Rules

Excel tip:

Highlighting a data range

Attempting to use a mouse to highlight a large range of cells with data in Excel can make the mouse to have a life of it's own!

Use keyboard strokes instead.

Step 1. Place the cusor in the cell where the highlighting should begin.

Step 2. Select keystroke, CTRL+SHIFT+END

This will take the cursor to the furthermost bottom corner of the data range found in that worksheet. And highlight that range of cells at the same time
