Formulas

I have little knowledge of formula building and would love to understand the concept behind every formula

RE: formulas

Hi Roheen,

Thank you for the forum question.

To understand the concept behind every formula in Excel is a bit of a task. You have more than 500 predefined functions which can handle formulas in Excel. You can put all these functions together (maximum 60 at the time).

I have been working with 298 of the more than 500 functions. I actually not believe that anyone knows all functions in Excel.

I found a useful Excel file on Microsoft website, which can give you some very good knowledge of formulas and functions in Excel.

I have attach the file to my answer.

Kind regards

Excel tip:

Turn Function tooltips on and off

Excel 2002 (XP) and Excel 2003 have the Function tooltips facility. When you type in a function name followed by a bracket, for example, =IF(, a yellow box appears beside the function name and lists the function's arguments. This is very useful when you can't quite remember the order of a function's arguments or what the arguments actually are!

However, Function tooltips can become annoying. To turn them off, choose Tools|Options. and select the General tab. Then, untick the Function tooltips box and choose OK.
