Dashboard

Dear STL,

I have a data table that I want to use to create a dashboard showing how much new space has been built in each year ( a chart), and then be able to slice the data by location, building and developer.

We were shown how to do this but I cannot get it to work.

Please can someone help?! I will gladly send the spreadsheet.

Kind regards,
Lisa Dean

RE: Dashboard

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for the forum question.

What is not working.

Slicers can filter any number of PivotTables, but only if the PivotTables are created from the same Pivot cache (from the same source). If the data come from multiple sources you can create a data model (create relationships between the sources), but this can only be done if it is related date.

You can send me the file:

RE: Dashboard

Hi Lisa,

I have the file and I am not sure what you mean by it is not working. When I click the options on the slicers it filter the PivotTable and the Pivot Chart.

RE: Dashboard

Hi Jens,

In the dashboard tab, it wasn't showing what I wanted it to, meaning by town, each year the total square feet etc. I managed yesterday to get it to work properly (i.e.by town). I had to insert a column which I called City. I was then able to get the data out of the table with the pivot table and then insert the slicers on the dashboard, which showed what I wanted eventually. I will send the updated file to you so you can see what I mean.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and try to help. I think it will just take some time for me to get used to using it. One thing I did want to ask was how do I put the conditional formatting in - like top 10 developers in a town by total square feet?

Thanks again,
Lisa

Excel tip:

Autofit column width – Excel (all versions)

a. Highlight the column or columns you wish to alter the width of. You do this by clicking on the grey button at the top of the column showing the column letter. Click and drag on these letters to select more than one column.
b. Double click the dividing line between the columns. This dividing line is the break between the columns on the column headers (grey buttons showing the column letter at the top of each column). When you hover your mouse over one of these dividing lines the point will change and show an arrow pulling a line in two directions. When you have this mouse pointer you should double click to get Excel to automatically set the column width to fit the contents of the column (autofit)
