I wanted to see whether there is a way for Excel to send notifications or to highlight when someone has passed or is reaching their probation period for example. Is there a way to do this?

RE: Notifications

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for the forum question.

I can see that you have done our Excel Intermediate course. I would use Conditional formatting to highlight when someone has passed or is reaching their probation period.

Select all the dates in the sheet. Click Conditional Formatting and click New Rule. Select the second option Format only cells that contain. Select Cell value Greater than or Equal to and by typing =Today() as criteria Excel will highlight all dates you need. Click Format and decide how you want it highlighted. And click OK.

Excel tip:

Sorting data stored in rows

Primarily Excel is set up to sort data that is stored in columns rather than rows.

It is possible to get Excel to sort data stored in rows however.

Click in the row you want to sort, or select the cells in the rows you wish to sort.

Go to Data - Sort, then go to the Options button in the bottom left corner of the Sort dialogue box.
