Track Changes In Word

I need some help with the track change feature on Word. Myself and a colleague have been adapting a document that has been used by the foundation in the past. We've used the track changes feature to allow us to see changes. Now we're happy with it we have switched the track changes function off and saved the document. However whenever we re-open the file or anyone else that we have sent it to opens it track changes is still on. How do we get track changes to switch off once and for all? We've tried re-saving, we've copied the text into a fresh blank document, I've tried saving in different formats but every time we open it track changes is still there. What should we do? Wish I'd never used the track changes option at all.

Thank you for any advice you can provide. We are using word 2007.

RE: Track Changes In Word

Hi Duncan,

The comments are attached embeded with the text.
You can remove the comments/track changes by removing 'hidden' data.

In the copy of your original document, click the Microsoft Office Button Office button image , point to Prepare, and then click Inspect Document.

In the Document Inspector dialog box, select the check boxes to choose the types of hidden content that you want to be inspected. For more information about the individual Inspectors, see What information can the Document Inspector find and remove?

Click Inspect.

Review the results of the inspection in the Document Inspector dialog box.

Click Remove All next to the inspection results for the types of hidden content that you want to remove from your document.

That should remove the comments from the text.

Please let us know if that hasn't solved it.

Word 2007 does has a few known formating issues, using Word 2010, 2013, or 2016 solves some of these.

Word tip:

Configure paste options in Word 2010

When you copy text and paste it into Word, the formatting is the same as where you copied the text from originally. You can change it to match the formatting of the current document but to avoid having to do this every time you paste text, follow the following steps:

1) Click the Office button
2) Then Word Options
3) Go to Advanced
4) Under the Cut, copy and paste heading, use the first four drop-down menus to choose a default setting for format pasting.
