On EXCEL, I keep trying to put the number 0781 but the zero keeps disappearing and I am left with 781!! How can I format it to keep the zero there??
RE: EXCEL
Hello Joanna,
Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Excel Intermediate course with Best STL.
Thank you for your question regarding formatting a number to keep the leading zero.
There are three ways of achieving this:
1) Format the cell contents as TEXT
2) Type a single apostrophe followed by the number
Remember that Excel will view the data as text in both cases. For calculating purposes you may use the number but in a limited way.
3) Use Custom formatting as follows:
In the type box start with a zero followed by a suitable number of hashes. e.g. to type 0781 use the custom format of 0###
This method is the best since the data remains as a number and may be used in formulas the same as any other number.
I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.
If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?
Have a great day.
