Embedding videos/Hyperlinking

I have been having major issues with embedding videos into powerpoint slides. It seems to work perfectly on my laptop and then when I save it onto the shared system and someone else opens it on their laptop it doesn't work? It also doesn't work when built on the USB and then the USB is inserted into someones elses laptop? Can anyone help?

If you need more info to solve the problem just ask!

RE: Embedding videos/Hyperlinking

Hi Cat,

Thank you for your question.

Have you tried saving the video file on the shared drive and then re-inserting a link to the video in the presentation and see if that works.

I am not sure about the USB issue however.

Regards

Simon

RE: Embedding videos/Hyperlinking

Simon,

Thanks for the response but I'm afraid that is already our practise for hyperlinking. I was told by my tutor that I would be able to EMBED a piece of footage into a presentation so that our presentations could just be opened and played without any hyperlinking? But it doesn't work. At all?

RE: Embedding videos/Hyperlinking

Hi Cat,

Thank you for your response.

You can try using the Insert Movie command to insert the video into the presentation and tell it to run automatically or when clicked.

Check that the Video file is in the same location as the PowerPoint presentation as this may be cause problems. Also make sure the Video file is on a shared drive that everyone has access to.

Is it a Flash movie which may involve active x controls? Some IT departments may block certain actions from running.

In terms of saving the presentation to USB, use the following commands:

File - Save & Send - Package Presentation for CD

In this process, it will give you the option of copying all the linked files and videos into a folder which then can be saved onto a memory stick.

I hope this helps.

Regards

Simon

RE: Embedding videos/Hyperlinking

Simon,

Your final point about packaging for a CD sounds like an awesome idea. I'll try that next time and if it doesn't work then I give up! Thank you.

PowerPoint tip:

Reduce PowerPoint file sizes

In PowerPoint, images often take up a lot of space which can lead to difficulties when it comes to emailing files. Luckily PowerPoint does contain some tools to help deal with this issue.

1. Disable the Fast Save feature - so that any changes you make will be immediately reflected in the file size. Go to Tools > Options > Save and deselect 'Allow fast saves'.

2. PowerPoint has an inbuilt compression tool, which is located on the Picture Toolbar.

If the Picture toolbar is not visible on your screen, go to View > Toolbars > Picture.

To compress or reduce the size of a picture, select the picture then click the Compress Pictures button on the Picture Toolbar. You can also right-click on a picture to access the option to compress it.
