Splitting Task Start and Stops

How to show when work on a task is paused for a period to be resumed at a later date.

RE: Splitting Task Start and Stops

Hi Marci

Thank you for your question. You may wish to create a Summary Task to describe the activity and indent the steps involved in delivering the outcome below it. You might also like to add milestones to mark the start and end of the sequence ot tasks. Now you can adjust the underlying tasks and the Summary task will calculate the overall duration.

Alternatively you may wish to create one task and use split (Edit > Split) to break the task into smaller but connected pieces.

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: Splitting Task Start and Stops

Hi Marci,

Thank you for your question.

There are two methods to show that the remaining portion of a task needs to rescheduled for a date in the future:

1. Split the task to the desired date.
2. Use the Update Project option which is available via the Tools menu and Tracking.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards

Simon

MS Project tip:

Link tasks using predecessor column - project

a. First, note ID number of the task you want to link to (predecessor). Then, in the predecessor column of the task you want to link to (successor), type the predecessor task's ID number.
b. The link will be a Finish to Start (the default type).
c. Or you can add in a code for a different relationship type
i. SS = Start to Start
ii. FF = Finish to Finish
iii. SF = Start to Finish
d. You don't have to type the task ID numbers in any specific order, but you must separate multiple tasks with commas.
