Thank you for attending PowerPoint 2007 Introduction Course!! I hope you enjoyed the course and benefited from it.
As far as I am aware there is no limit to the files that you can open in PowerPoint 2007. It just depends on the memory of your Computer.
But I'll double check it with one of my colleagues and then may be give you a definite answer.

Hi Rebecca and Rajeev,
I'm not sure about this one. It would be a question for Microsoft, really.
But I imagine you could have quite a few open with no problems (depending on your computers memory capacity and processing/CPU speed).
Rajeev is correct: the more files you have open, and indeed how large the file size of the slideshow, then Powerpoint will struggle to operate efficiently. (eg. if you had a huge or several video files embedded in your slideshow).
Do you need an exact answer, Rebecca? Or were you just curious? If you really need to know, please reply to this post and we can maybe get more details for you :)
