No spellchecking with tables and forms?

I've been creating some report templates for a client. The template includes a few simple tables and within the tables i have included some 'text box form fields'. Having set parameters for each 'cell' I finish the document by clicking the padlock button to prevent any of the 'non form' cells being selected or edited in error.

Finally I save the document as a template so that it can be accessed from Word's Project gallery (in Mac OS Office 2004). These templates habe worked on both Mac and PC without problem but there is just the one snag! The client can not use MSword's spellchecker within the document or the field cells, hence it's back t a good old fashioned dictionary for them.

Does anyone know if there is any way around this? Could I set up the document in a better way?

I'd be grateful of any suggestions.

System (MacOSX Office 2004 for Mac) Also have MS OfficeXP (2002? edition) on a PC.

RE: No spellchecking with tables and forms?

Hi Justin

Thanks for your question.

Apparently not being able to use spellcheck in documents that have protection applied is a bug that has been around for a while.

There is apparently a work-around but it requires setting up a macro in the Visual Basic Editor (Tools - Macro - Visual Basic Editor).

The code for the macro can be copied from here: http://word.mvps.org/faqs/macrosvba/SpellcheckProtectDoc.htm

Once you go into the Visual Basic Editor in Word, you can open an area to paste the code into using the 'This document' under Project in the window on the left of the screen. Once the code has been pasted, save the code (same as saving a Word document). Then you would need to test it to see if it works!

I have not used this myself so don't know from personal experience whether or not it works but would be interested to know how you get on.

Also here is a link to a Google Groups Word Mac group posting that may be of interest to you:
