Company Profile

Business Requirement

3Way Cleaning built an integrated data management application on a SharePoint 2003 platform. This SharePoint site has been very successful for the business, but they were aware of the opportunities available within the new SharePoint 2010 framework and required a comprehensive overview of the migration process.

The client requirements spanned 3 main objectives:

• To rebuild current Data Centre using SharePoint 2010 technology
• To ensure the new SharePoint Data Centre met strict the strict requirements, and was fully compliant with, a number of ISO Standards
• To up-skill 2 Site Administrators with good prior knowledge of MOSS 2007

An additional challenge was to ensure that cross-browser compatibility was taken into consideration, as well as compatibility across mobile and tablet devices, e.g. iPads, iPhones etc.

Solution

During a 2 day hands-on, intensive workshop, the client was introduced to the new features of SharePoint 2010. and shown how to incorporate these into the new build of the company data centre. The workshop included an audit of the existing data centre; a full breakdown of the site hierarchy and an evaluation of the current taxonomy.

Key to each objective was identifying any scope for enhanced functionality and delivering an improved user experience.

Cross-compatibility with existing systems was key to the success of the data centre, and so time was spent troubleshooting data importing / exporting to custom lists; the client was shown how to take advantage of the full MS Access & Excel integration with SharePoint 2010.

Each build opportunity was a chance to improve on the previous iteration of the data centre and make sure that the data centre was efficient, easy to use and visually attractive.

Time was taken to fully understand the process of creating relational lists and take full advantage of web part connections, as these allow users maximum control over their data.

Advice was given with regard to Cloud Hosting, branding and integrating other SharePoint tools from the Microsoft Office Suite such as InfoPath and SharePoint Designer.

Benefits

3Way are now in a much better position to assure the integrity of their data.

They did this by:

• Learning how to automate the data entry wherever possible
• Applying good data validation to their custom lists
• Using good 'build' techniques to save time and resources

Chris Webb

The flexibility of the trainer was great. She was happy to incorporate our business needs into our SharePoint solution.

Gains for me and my team included a wider knowledge base of sharepoint, easier methods of uploading and deleting data. Creating multiple pages that draw data from one big list instead of multiple lists which saves time and is easier to organise. We now have the knowledge to grow the site into exactly what we want.
