V-Look Ups

Please explain a V-Look Up and how this can be used in an efficient and useful way?

RE: V-Look Ups

Hi Olivia,

Thank you for the forum question.

The Vlookup is a very powerful function in Excel, which can be used for looking up data.

The Vlookup has the structure: =Vlookup(Lookup_Value, Table_Array, Col_Number, Range_Lookup)

The Lookup_Value is the value you want to lookup. The table array is the range of data where you want to lookup something. Col_Number is the column number in the table array where you want to lookup something and Range_lookup is where you can tell the function if you want an exact match or an approximately match.

On our website we have an Excel Blog where you can find many Vlookup Examples.

Excel tip:

Generate randon numbers

Some types of analysis require you to use randomly generated numbers. You can also use randomly generated numbers to quickly populate an Excel spreadsheet. There's an easy function you can use to do this automatically. Here are a few of the ways you can use it:

Type =RAND() in a cell to generate a number between 0 and 1.
Type =RAND()*100 to generate a number between 1 and 100.
