Word Macros

What is a Macro and when would I used them?

RE: Word Macros

Hi Victoria

Thanks for your question. A macro is an automated sequence of instructions. Macros can be recorded and played back by the click of a button.

More complex macros can be written in Excel, Word or other Office Applications that can greatly speed up a process that may be time consuming and repetative.

Fro example, of Word macros might be recorded to open a letter template or a standard header text.

A written maco in Word could be one to create a form with multiple choice questions. With Excel a macro could be written to produce and format a report from a table of data.

We run courses usually for Excel to learn the programming language called Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) used for writing macros.

I hope that helps.

Excel tip:

Pivot table grouping

If you want to group items in a pivot table together, simply highlight the labels for the fields either with the shift key (if adjacent)or with the contral key if they are not next to each other.
Right click and choose group. Give the cell a name.

When you double click on this cell it will either expamd or collapse your grouped area
