Mail Merge - Emails with attachments

We have to send out a mail merge, but via email. Hugely hazardous at the best of times, but now my boss wants to send it with an attachment. Can you please explain to me how do you send an email mail merge with an attachment. Is this actually possible?

RE: Mail Merge - Emails with attachments

Hi Dianne

Thank you for your question. Yes I agree merge from Word to email can be particularly exciting at times! As far as I am aware the merge feature built into Word does not support adding attachments when merging to email.

An alternative would be to host the files that need to be attached on a public web server and then include a URL to the resource in the body of the message.

If you do need the documents to be attached to the mail then you may wish to try a search online, perhaps for something like "word mail merge with attachment". As far as I can see there are two options. One is to use some VBA programming code the other is to buy a commercial add-on that adds the features you seek.

I have no direct experience with either of these options so if you do decide to proceed please remember that it as your own risk and do so with caution and lots of testing.

If you get chance please do let me know what you decide.

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: Mail Merge - Emails with attachments

Hi Andrew

Thank you for your reply. I thought as much. We have suggested doing it your way as that would be easier. The other way I suggested would be to send an email and bcc everyone into it that way. The downside is that you wouldn't be able to address everyone with "Dear Mary", etc. but at least it would get the attachment there. Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

Turning on Track changes quickly

At the bottom of the screen is the status bar letting you know where you are on a page, but there is a TRK button which if double clicked turns on track changes.
