Amending dates in MS Project 2013

Every time I create a new task it automatically gives the start date that I set in the project plan. I have linked the tasks so that each task will start when the previous one finishes which should technically amend the start date, however, each task created only uses the original start date. How do I override this ?

RE: Amending dates in MS Project 2013

Hi Kerri.

There are one or two reasons why the tasks are not resheduling to the correct date.

1. The tasks need Autoscheduling. Select all the tasks, click on the Task ribbon and click AutoSchedule.

2. There may be contrains set. Select all the tasks, right click, Information and click the Advanced Tab. In Constaint Type choose As Soon As Possible.

Let me know the effect of trying these before I suggest something else.

MS Project tip:

Link tasks using predecessor column - project

a. First, note ID number of the task you want to link to (predecessor). Then, in the predecessor column of the task you want to link to (successor), type the predecessor task's ID number.
b. The link will be a Finish to Start (the default type).
c. Or you can add in a code for a different relationship type
i. SS = Start to Start
ii. FF = Finish to Finish
iii. SF = Start to Finish
d. You don't have to type the task ID numbers in any specific order, but you must separate multiple tasks with commas.
