if i inherit a list of names to use in a mail merge and they are in one field instead of first name, last name. how would I separate them?

RE: Word Advanced

Hi Valerie

Can I check first how your mailmerge data is stored? Sometimes it is in Access. If Excel then you can separate the names using the Text to Columns feature on the Data tab.

1.First insert 2 blank columns to the right of your Names column.
2. Highlight the names column then select Data, Text to Columns.
Select Delimeted
3. Click on space if the firstnames and surnames are separated by a space.
4. Choose a destination cell at the top of the first inserted column.
5. Press ok.

Hope that does it!
