RE: linking Excel workbook in Access

Dear Christine

Thank you for attending Access and Word Courses. I hope you enjoyed the courses and are finding the topics covered during the training useful.

I believe in the training course we learnt how to link tables from one database to another. But you can easily link Excel workbook instead of a access table.

It would be a good way to get information from people who might not be confident in using Access. The good thing is that once you link the Excel file to Access you can make changes in Excel or Access and the data will always ib up-to-date in both applications.

All you have to do is following:

Step 1: On tables object choose New Button.
Step 2: Choose Link table and then press OK
Step 3: Choose the MS Excel from the File of types drop down list and also select the location of the file.
Step 4: when the wizard appears select the appropriate options and press finish.
Step 5: You

Access tip:

Switchboard Startup

An option when you open your Access database that contains all of you tables, forms and queries is only the switchboard is displayed.

To achieve this, select Tools click on Startup. On the right hand side of the Startup screen you are able to select which form you want to open when you open you Access Database. Once you have selected this, there is a check box just below that says "Display Database Window", you need to uncheck this option. Then click ok.

Then when you close you Access database and re open it, the database should open with just the switchboard being shown
