Sorting data pulled using vlookups

Hi,

I am currently working with a data set as defined below. The "ReleaseDate" is returned by a vlookup to another tab, using the "Title" as there lookup reference.

When I try to sort it by date, all the lookup references in the vlookup formula get jumbled up and are no longer looking up the right lines.

Title ReleaseDate
Example1 01/01/19
Example2 10/05/18
Example3 21/09/17
Example4 01/06/18
Example5 22/03/19

Is there any way to change the lookup to avoid this, or another way to sort the data to achieve the same result?

RE: Sorting data pulled using vlookups

Hi Alex,

Thank you for the forum question.

It shouldn't mess up if sort the data. If the table array is locked with dollar sign (absolute), you should be able to sort the data without problems.

If you want to show me the file or if you can make a sample, I can have a look at it.

Excel tip:

Recently used file list

Under the File menu, you may find a list of files at the bottom of the menu. These files represent the most recently used Excel spreadsheets. This file list provides a quick way for you to access your files.

You can disable the file list feature of Excel. This is done by

1. Choose Tools > Options menu. You will see the Options dialog box.
2. Ensure the General tab is selected.
3. Make sure the Recently Used File List check box is cleared.
4. Click on OK.
