Queries and Relationships

We have three tables which have relationship links. Table 1is linked from the primary autonumber key to a foreign key in the Table 2. Table 2 is linked by a separate primary key to a foreign key in Table 3
When we try to run a select query to obtain data from all three tables we get no results. What are we doing wrong?

RE: Queries and Relationships

Hi Jackie,

Thank you for the forum question.

When we are working with databases there can be a lot of reasons why a query isn't returning any records. It is not possible to say what's wrong without having the database in front of you.

If you forward me the datebase I will have look at it.

You can forward the file to info@stl-training.co.uk

RE: Queries and Relationships

Hi Jackie,

Thank you for the database.

I have examined the queries and if you have a look at the Query Visit by Consultant there is no related records.

If you double click the joined line between the tables in the query and select 3: "Include all records from Visit details....." and run the query you can see there is no related records. You can in the field ProjectIDFK relate the Visit Details to the Project details.

I hope this will clarify the issue.

Kind regards

RE: Queries and Relationships

Hi Jens

Thanks I realise now we had not completed the foreign key column with the respective id number form the linked data table. I have now done this and it works! :) Just a simple thing but was really frustrating. Thanks very much.

Prefixed Autonumbering

When using Date Type = Autonumber as a primary key, clients may require autonumbering to be prefixed with a letter.

For example, P001, where P is the prefixed letter

Instructions

Step 2. Set Data Type to Autonumber
Step 3. Within Field Property General tabsheet,
enter Format property as [backslash]P000
