As we discussed on course, it is really important to define your project up front. Set the Project start date and ensure that the Calandar & working times for the Project don't conflict with each other.

After that, create a clear working structure for your project and when the plan is complete (including resourses and assignments), set your Baseline for the whole project to make it easier to track any slippage.
