I have seen this tool been used but what are the functionality around this tool and where and when should it be used?

The "Expression" tool accessed by the Build button is very useful to create (build) Calculations and Formulas in the query, using both normal syntax and Functions.

For example

In a Query listing all the Orders received a field can be created to calculate the Total value of the order by :

Multiplying the Amount Ordered by the Unit Price

Access tip:

Display current date & time in column of any width
