Can someone from outside an organisation without direct access to the location of the stored page still access it? ie police forces using a secure pnn network to access our server?

Hi Claire, thanks for your query. Can you give me a bit more background information. When you say "stored page" what do you mean? A webpage? An Access table? Secondly, are you concerned about the security of your information on a secure network? Is it a wireless network, a VPN, or a private intranet? Otherwise, are you trying to proxy in remotely to your server and access a document? This last is perfectly possible and happens all the time with great security but the rule of the thumb when it comes to security is that nothing is 100% secure so the more the better!

There is an option in Access 2003 to design a 'page' that someone can use to a web access to enter info into the database without being in the same unit. We have a web based utility that does a similar thing allowing the police forces around the country to enter data into our database. We all use the secure pnn web access. My question is whether the pages option within Access would be robust enough to take over the function of the other bit of software which was built for us by a commercial company and costs us a fortune to update if we want to change it...

Hi Claire. It's difficult to advise you on this one without us having a look at the functionality of the bespoke software and cross-checking with Access. Try contacting the company who designed the software and asking exactly what they created and why standard Access functionality wasn't used in the first place.
