Macros

What is a macro and how are they used?

RE: Macros

Dear Janice

Thank you for attending Access courses!! I hope you enjoyed the course and benefited from it.

Macros are used for automating repetitive tasks. Unlike Word, Excel and PowerPoint where you record macros in Access you instruct access to follow certain predefined commands.

You attended Access Advanced course with us after you asked this question and if you remember we carried out various tasks using the macros.

Following are some of the tasks that you can perform with ethe help of Macros:

Displaying certain messages when a form is opened (e.g. "Please note that you cannot modify the content of this form").

Open the table or form in Add record mode where the suer cannot see any existing records. They are only allowed to enter data.

Attaching Macros to the command button that can open eciting report or form.

To resize windows

More advance actions such as :

If the address filed is left blank a message appears that teh user cannot continue and the first filed of the table becomes activated.
(Got focus, Lost focus)

To automatically enter a value in a field when a value is entered in another fields, e.g. enter city and the country gets entered automatically.

I hope this has answered your query.

If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!

Kindest Regards

Access tip:

Switchboard Startup

An option when you open your Access database that contains all of you tables, forms and queries is only the switchboard is displayed.

To achieve this, select Tools click on Startup. On the right hand side of the Startup screen you are able to select which form you want to open when you open you Access Database. Once you have selected this, there is a check box just below that says "Display Database Window", you need to uncheck this option. Then click ok.

Then when you close you Access database and re open it, the database should open with just the switchboard being shown
