Linked workbook - "formula too long"

I'm using Excel 2002 (10.4524.4219)SP-2 and have a number of workbooks with multiple worksheets, all in a similar generic format. All behave perfectly when linked to other workbooks apart from one.

I need to change the source to this spreadsheet and am using Edt / edit links / change source but when I browse to the new file and double click I get the error message "formula is too long".

This is a fatal error, Excel locks, so have to use cntrl_alt_del and then end task from task manager.

Any hints?

many thanks, Cameron

RE: linked workbook - "formula too long"

Hi Cameron

There is a limit to the length of formulas in excel. 1024 characters. If any of your formulas are longer, this mmight be causing the issue.

Richard

Excel tip:

Hide separate columns in Excel 2010

If you want to hide columns not adjacent to each other for example, Columns A, C and E then:-

1) Click on the fist column to be hidden i.e. A

2) Press and hold down the CTRL key

3) While holding the CTRL key, left click on the rest of the columns you want to hide i.e. C and E

4) Right click and choose Hide
