Charts

Hi

How do I covert a series of dates into a chart please?

Thank you

Franco

RE: Charts

Hi Franco,

Firstly, make sure your data is tidy. So have your date and the value associated with your date so it's something like this:

02/08/2019 15
03/08/2019 17
04/08/2019 10
05/08/2019 13
06/08/2019 15
07/08/2019 19

Click into the data range and use the shortcut Alt + F1.

This will create a chart from the selected data. It will always be a column chart.

From there you can change the chart layout details from the controls on the ribbon.

Hope this helps.

RE: Charts

Thanks Claire,

I presume the vale you have at the end of each date is how many tenancies expire on that date. If so, that's where I am stuck. Is there a simple way that Excel can add these up? Once I have this, I can see and am confident enough to know how to convert the data in to a chart.

Kind regards,

Franco

RE: Charts

Hi Franco,

For this example the value next to each date is just an example. In the real world it could mean anything.

You can add any set of values up. The easiest way to do this is to use auto sum. This would be using the formulas that you coverd in Excel intermediate.

RE: Charts

Hi Claire,

This doesn't help me at all I'm afraid.

I know how to use autosum but what I am struggling with is how can I use the series of dates to know how many have the same month. Once I have that value, I can then create a chart to see visually how many are in each month,

It's hard to explain in an email but I thought I did earlier in my response to Jens.

RE: Charts

Hi Franco,

You don't need to add them up. Excel will do that for you.

Here is some example data:

01/08/2019 10
01/08/2019 5
01/08/2019 2
02/08/2019 13
03/08/2019 7
03/08/2019 6

If you chart this then excel will add together the values for the same dates.

thanks
Claire

Thanks Claire,

I don't think I am making progress - probably me so I won't take up more of your time.

Kind regards,

Franco

Excel tip:

Calculate difference between two times

For presenting the result in the standard time format (hours : minutes : seconds . Use the subtraction operator (-) to find the difference between times, and the TEXT function to format the returned value to text in a specific number format.

Hours never exceed 24, minutes never exceed 60, and seconds never exceed 60.

=TEXT(B2-A2,"h")
Hours between two times (4)

=TEXT(B2-A2,"h:mm")
Hours and minutes between two times (4:55)

=TEXT(B2-A2,"h:mm:ss")
Hours and seconds between two times (4:55:00)

Where B2 and A2 must hold the end time and start time respectively formatted as a time format
