Access 2013 - linking tables

Hi

I attended a course with Doug last month but clearly that was too long ago as I don't seem to be able to remember how to do anything..! :-(

I have everyone's contact details in one table and want to connect the names with another table where I can track their attendance etc. How do I do this..?

Thank you!

Anjali

RE: Access 2013 - linking tables

Hi Anjali

You may need to say little more about your question. But it sounds like you have an Attendance table and want to ener information drawing it from the your Contacts table.

To do that first create a primary key field in the Contacts table. For example Contact ID. This could be an Autonumber field and make it a Primary field usually the first one.

Then create an Attendance table including the Contact ID field as a Number field type. The other fileds would be event name, date, attended etc.

Finally go to Database Tools Relationships and link the Contact ID fields.

After entering the Attendance info you can then produce Reports or Forms that combine information from both. For example you could create a schedule of events listing the names and and phone numbers of attendees.

Please let me know if that helps.

Access tip:

Create An Inaccessible Field On A Form

There is sometimes a need to make a field in a form look like a normal field but be completely inaccessible to the user. To do this:

In the Field's Properties
Set the ENABLED property to No
Set the LOCKED property to Yes

The field will not grey out, but the user will not be able to do anything with it.
