SUM IF

I would like to know how to effectively implement this formula

RE: SUM IF

Hi Trudi

Thanks for getting in touch. SUMIF is a very useful function for adding up a range of cells only when the criteria you specify is met.

The format is =SUMIF(range, criteria)

=SUMIF(A1:A55,">50") : this formula will only add cells in the range A1:A55 that are greater than fifty.

=SUMIF(C35:E45,"=10") : this formula will only add cells in the the range C35:E45 that contain the number 10.

You can also test one range of cells, and sum another adjacent range.

=SUMIF(A2:A7,"Sales",C2:C7) : this formula will look for any occurrences of the word "Sales" in the range A2:A7, and add what is in the relative position of range C2:C7.

There are lots of uses of the SUMIF function that can really transform how you work; I recommend looking up SUMIF in the Excel help for more examples of how you can put it to use.
